The Story Behind the Big Boys

Every business has a beginning.

For Big Boys Building & Maintenance, it started with Bok.

Born in South Africa and affectionately nicknamed “Bok” after the Springbok, Bok moved to Australia in the early 90’s.

After years working in hospitality, Bok discovered a passion for property and construction. In 2002, he co-founded Big Boys Building and began learning the building industry from the ground up alongside his friend and licensed builder, Mick.

It was a hands-on apprenticeship — learning not just how to build, but how to manage projects, work with trades, understand property transactions and run a business.

About

From Property Projects to Building Big

Bok’s early experience centred around residential building and property projects before the business began moving into commercial work.

Over the years, Big Boys took on renovations for pubs, office fitouts and municipal buildings, expanding its capabilities and building a reputation for taking on projects across a range of environments.

By 2008, Bok had become the sole director of Big Boys Building and began expanding the business into a medium-sized operation with more than 35 employees and a broad range of services.

The business grew to encompass everything from roofing and flooring to kitchens and maintenance.

24 Years Later

Today, Big Boys Building & Maintenance continues to be driven by the same hands-on approach that started it all.

Bok brings 24 years of building industry experience and a genuine enthusiasm for the craft, backed by a trusted team of tradespeople and industry professionals.

The business has evolved over the years, but the philosophy remains simple:

Give clients one trusted team to help take care of their building and property needs.
